Construction of Trenton Biogas has finally begun after several years of planning and attempt to close finance. Now according to the plan it is expected to be done by the end of October 2019.
The objective of Trenton Biogas is to build an efficient plant for converting organic waste from local households and businesses into useful methane gas, an environmentally-friendly fuel.
“This is a highly efficient system for converting organic waste from households and businesses into useful methane gas, in order to produce electricity with reduced amounts of carbon. This will help communities in Mercer County reduce disposal costs in an environmentally-friendly way by making use of new technologies.” said Peter Joseph, Chairman of Trenton Biogas.
Towns and institutions currently pay significant fees on the waste they send to distant landfills. Trenton Biogas will offer an alternative disposal route for food waste at a lower cost. This will make it more appealing to separate food waste from the normal trash streams.
Renew Energy is responsible for the basic engineering design of an advanced anaerobic digestion system with front-end and back-end technologies that uses pre- and post-consumer food waste as the feedstock to generate renewable electricity for local consumers and valuable fertilizers for agricultural amendments.
Trenton Biogas is located in Duck Island, Hamilton Township, New Jersey. It is rebuilt from an inactive sludge drying facility constructed in 1992. It will be the first large-scale facility of its type in New Jersey.
